What if we could build companies that help people thrive, not just survive? That enable LATAM’s small businesses to grow in ways that weren’t possible before?
Fundamental was born in 2021 from a simple idea: some of Latin America’s biggest challenges can be tackled by building better businesses.
We started within FUNDES, combining decades of experience working with small businesses across Latin America with the mindset and tools of startup building. In 2024, Fundamental became an independent impact venture studio based in Mexico founded by Elfid Torres, Corentin Larue and Maxime Braun.
Every year, we start with an overlooked problem faced by small businesses excluded from traditional market solutions. We focus on areas where we see significant opportunities to drive economic mobility and strengthen climate resilience. Once identified, we bring together entrepreneurs, business expertise, technology and capital to build a new social enterprise from scratch.
By 2030, Fundamental will have built 10 ventures, enabling 10,000 small businesses to double their income, creating 5,000 jobs and improving 100,000 existing ones, contributing to a more inclusive and greener Latin America.
